Friday Letters

Today your child wrote their second letter in their Friday Letter notebook. They should have written about some of the many activities we participated in this week. Your child should share this notebook with you. Please respond to them in letter format and return the notebook to school on Monday. Students with responses will receive stickers for the cover of their Friday Letter notebook. This notebook will be a very special form of communication during the year and an excellent way to look back at the wonderful fourth grade year they will have had.

Thank you for your support!

Genius Hour

This year students will be engaging in time each week to pursue personal passions. Many teachers around the country are beginning to build Genius Hour time into their weekly schedules to help develop a lifelong love of learning in their students. Students have submitted proposals of big questions they're planning on researching and answering in the next couple weeks. The majority of work should be done during Genius Hour in class. Here is a brief video further explaining Genius Hour.

Fri. 8/30- No School
Mon. 9/2- No School/Labor Day Holiday Thurs. 9/5- School Pictures
Fri. 9/6- Early Dismissal

Remember to pick up all the supplies you need before the first day of school!

It was so nice to spend the summer at home with my two girls, Olivia and Emery. We loved playing at the park, where Olivia excitedly shouts "weeee" as she goes down the slide again and again. My cousin and her daughters visited from Brazil, so we made sure to get together a lot while they were here. Here's a picture of the girls watching Olivia's new favorite movie, Bolt.

Toward the end of July, I ran in the Run or Dye 5k in Pomona. Here's a picture of me and my cousins, who ran it with me. Even the little kids got in on dying each other. It was a lot of fun. We'll be doing the Ugly Sweater Dash in December together, too.

This summer we took the girls to the San Diego Zoo for the first time. It's my favorite zoo and I couldn't wait for them to enjoy it. Olivia's at just the right age to begin understanding that not every animal is a dog. She especially loved the monkeys!

What a busy and blessed summer I had! I also spent some time learning about new ways to integrate even MORE technology into our classroom. I'm so excited to start creating some really awesome projects with you!

I hope you also had a fun and relaxing summer. I look forward to getting to know you and hearing about your many summer adventures.
